ENERGY- “A GLOBAL CHALLENGE”

Dear Stakeholder

You have been specially chosen to receive IIR’s monthly ‘Energy News’ Letter. ‘Energy News’ will strike to provide you with the latest thinking, disciplines and technologies across a broad spectrum of energy issues. To ensure that we cater to your information needs on energy challenges affecting the globe, we will specially select topical themes for each month’s news letter. We would also appreciate your feedback and thought. We hope that you will find this newsletter, not only informative and engaging but also of long-term benefit to your organisation’s decision-making.

Energy is the life-blood of the modern world. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the official energy statistics organisation of the US Government “global energy consumption is expected to grow by about 70% in the coming 25 years. Much of this growth is driven by developing countries, whose inhabitants seek a standard of living that closely resembles that of the western world.”  http://inside.mines.edu/~rsnieder/Global_Energy.html

It has become evidently clear that energy conservation is a challenging task but of paramount importance for the long-term prosperity of industries and all forms of life on Earth. Government participation is critical in developing technology and creating cooperative governance that could lead to the realisation of energy efficiency, cleaner coal technology and greater profits for industry. In South Africa, important partnerships and initiatives between Government, industries and institutions of higher education signifies that South Africa is pro-actively working towards a constructive panacea for future energy reserves.
